SpaceX Sets New Launch Record with 22 Starlink Satellites from Florida’s Space Coast

On Saturday, October 26, SpaceX reached a new milestone by launching 22 Starlink satellites, further extending its global internet network.

Starlink 10-8 Mission Launch Overview

The Starlink Group 10-8 liftoff occurred at 5:47 p.m. EDT from Launch Complex 40. The Falcon 9 rocket successfully inserted 22 satellites into low Earth orbit (LEO), bolstering the Starlink satellite network. Approximately eight minutes post-launch, the rocket’s first stage flawlessly landed on SpaceX’s autonomous drone ship, Just Read the Instructions, positioned in the Atlantic Ocean. This was the 19th mission for this particular Falcon 9 booster, showcasing SpaceX’s pioneering work in rocket reusability and environmental responsibility.

While the first stage returned, the Falcon 9’s second stage propelled the payload into orbit, deploying satellites around 64 minutes after launch. This mission marked SpaceX’s 66th Starlink deployment this year, underlining the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance internet coverage through an ever-growing constellation now exceeding 6,400 operational satellites.

Florida’s Space Coast Achieves Historic Launch Count

This latest mission brought the number of launches from Florida’s Space Coast to 73 in 2024, setting a new yearly record that surpasses last year’s 72 missions. Thanks to a 90% favorable weather forecast from the Space Force’s 45th Weather Squadron, conditions were ideal for a smooth launch. Space Launch Delta 45 celebrated the accomplishment, stating, “Meeting and exceeding previous benchmarks is all part of how we are setting the pace for space in this new era.” This surge in launch activity reflects Florida’s increasing influence in both government and private spaceflight ventures, cementing its role as a prime launch hub worldwide.

Since its launch, Starlink has rapidly grown, providing high-speed internet to millions across remote and underserved areas. Beyond household use, the service now supports organizations, mobile users, and astronauts aboard the International Space Station. SpaceX has even expanded Starlink’s capabilities to include internet access for commercial airline passengers, connecting users in places that previously had little or no internet coverage.

The Falcon 9’s 19th successful booster recovery highlights SpaceX’s commitment to developing reusable launch technology.
