Intriguing ‘Portal-Like’ Formation Near Egypt’s Pyramids Captivates Online Communities

A puzzling discovery visible on Google Maps, situated roughly 25 miles south of Egypt’s famous pyramids, has ignited a surge of speculation ranging from extraterrestrial gateways to covert military bases. Initially covered by the Daily Mail on March 31, 2025, these satellite images have stirred worldwide intrigue about the nature and intent behind this mysterious formation.

An Unusual Pattern in the Desert Landscape

Found at coordinates 29°54’23″N 31°08’02″E, the curious site consists of a prominent horseshoe-shaped outline encasing a smaller structure at its core. It is accompanied by symmetrically arranged geometric buildings, triggering widespread debate over its possible purpose and origins.

The location has been dubbed by some as a potential “Stargate”—a nod to a fictional teleportation device popular in sci-fi narratives. The discovery has sparked extensive discussion on Reddit and YouTube forums, especially among UFO enthusiasts.

One Reddit contributor remarked, “It resembles how fighter jet shelters or missile storage units look when kept in reserve.” Others suggest it might be a “desert kite,” an ancient hunting apparatus used by prehistoric societies to capture animals collectively.

Despite its clear presence on Google Maps, the site remains unlabeled officially, adding fuel to theories of deliberate concealment.

Close to Iconic Monuments, Attracting Visitors

What enhances interest in this site is its proximity—only about a 24-minute drive from the Great Pyramid of Khufu, one of the world’s most renowned ancient wonders. The Giza Plateau, home to the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, has long captivated public imagination with myths and speculative history.

Although some call for an expedition to investigate the exact location, others caution that similar installations pepper Egypt’s deserts, many dating back to the mid-1900s.

These sites were typically constructed to support air defense operations, especially during the Cold War when Egypt deployed Soviet-era Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) batteries to protect strategic assets.

Elon Musk, Extraterrestrials, and Endless Speculation

Egypt’s mystique with alien theories isn’t new. In 2020, Elon Musk stirred debate by tweeting, Aliens built the pyramids obv. This prompted a rebuttal from Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation, Rania al-Mashat, who invited Musk to explore the pyramids builders’ tombs as evidence of human achievement.

Leading archaeologist Zahi Hawass dismissed Musk’s statement as “complete hallucination.” However, fascination endures, particularly when modern satellite images unveil ambiguous desert configurations lacking official explanation.

The YouTube channel Secureteam10, known for videos about government secrecy and UFO phenomena, featured a comparable site in 2016, displaying two elongated, pointed features enveloped by circular patterns.

Military Function or Otherworldly Design?

Defense analysts note the site’s architecture strongly resembles blast berms—elevated earth barriers intended to absorb blasts—alongside reinforced hangars meant for housing fighter aircraft or missile systems. Similar configurations are present across regions like Iran, Syria, and territories of the former Soviet Union.

The absence of identification on satellite platforms could result from routine security masking or decommissioning. Yet, this void of information only heightens public intrigue.
