SpaceX Set to Deploy New Starlink Satellites

On Friday evening, SpaceX is scheduled to send another group of Starlink satellites into orbit. This flight, called Starlink 6-64, advances SpaceX's ambition to build a worldwide satellite internet system. The launch window opens from 6:43 p.m. to 11:14 p.m. EDT, launching from Space Launch Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

The Falcon 9 rocket will attempt a drone ship landing in the Atlantic Ocean after deploying the satellites, minimizing sonic boom impacts near the coast. SpaceX's strategy of recovering and reusing rockets is now routine and helps lower the overall expenses of space missions.

The Starlink initiative plans to place thousands of small satellites into low Earth orbit to offer fast internet connections to remote or underserved regions around the globe. This mission will add to the constellation, boosting network capacity and reach.

Boeing's Starliner Gears Up for First Manned Flight

Following SpaceX’s launch, Boeing will launch its Starliner spacecraft on Saturday, marking its inaugural crewed journey. The mission will carry NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to the International Space Station (ISS).

This flight follows several delays caused by technical issues, including a helium leak detected in early May. Despite these hurdles, Boeing, NASA, and United Launch Alliance (ULA) have completed comprehensive inspections and remain confident in the spacecraft’s readiness after a recent Readiness Review.

The Atlas V rocket will be rolled out to the pad on Thursday ahead of its planned launch at 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. Backup launch dates are scheduled for June 2, 5, and 6 if needed. Named the Crewed Test Flight, this mission is vital for certifying the Starliner for regular ISS crew transport, offering NASA an additional spacecraft option.
