A groundbreaking report featured by Popular Mechanics has reignited interest in a series of unidentified submerged object (USO) encounters involving U.S. Navy crews. Spanning multiple decades and oceans, these encounters are now highlighted by veterans as credible threats that challenge existing scientific understanding.
Mysterious Sightings During Naval Training
Back in 2014, Lieutenant Ryan Graves, an F/A-18 pilot with the U.S. Navy near Virginia Beach, started noticing unusual readings during his flight exercises. Initially interpreted as radar errors, these detections soon gained confirmation from infrared and visual sources.
Graves described the unidentified objects as capable of remaining stationary in midair or moving at speeds exceeding sound. These phenomena appeared consistently at various heights, mainly over or close to the ocean surface. One of his most unforgettable observations was of a dark cube enclosed within a transparent sphere, measuring between 5 and 15 feet. It drew as near as 50 feet to the aircraft, an event Graves called “the moment that changed everything.”
When he consulted with other pilots from the USS Nimitz and USS Princeton operating on the West Coast, he learned these experiences were widespread and longstanding.
Objects Operating Seamlessly Between Air and Water
The military community now refers to these phenomena as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs). Many such objects demonstrate transmedium capability, transitioning effortlessly from air to water without causing splashes or turbulence—actions that defy accepted aerodynamic and hydrodynamic principles.
Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, an oceanographer and former Navy commander, was among the early reviewers of 2015 footage from the USS Theodore Roosevelt, showing these extraordinary maneuvers. The crafts demonstrated rapid high-speed movement, aerial spinning, and left no visible exhaust.
“What I observed wasn’t made by us,” Gallaudet stated. “No known nation possesses technology like this.” For him, these anomalies demand urgent national research attention. He is collaborating with Graves and ex-Pentagon officials to advocate for openness and deeper examination.
Four Key U.S. Navy Encounters Remain Unresolved
Several notable military observations still puzzle experts. For example, in 2004, USS Nimitz pilots documented a striking Tic Tac-shaped entity that fell from 80,000 feet to sea level in under a second, lacking wings or engines.
Infrared recordings from 2013 near Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, captured a spherical object entering the ocean without causing a splash, resurfacing, then dividing into two before diving again—behavior inconsistent with known physics.
A 1990s encounter involved a CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopter crew near Puerto Rico. While retrieving a drone, a large dark entity emerged from beneath, dragging the helicopter back underwater, leaving the pilot in shock.
In 2019, the USS Omaha recorded a spherical object hovering above the Pacific before smoothly submerging without splash; similar sightings were reported by crew aboard the USS Jackson in 2023.

Recent Legislation May Unlock Secrets of Alien Tech
These persistent reports have culminated in tangible governmental response. In 2023, the U.S. Congress enacted the UAP Disclosure Act, requiring federal agencies to document, study, and reveal details about recovered extraterrestrial vehicles and biological samples. This marks a turning point in official acknowledgment of possible nonhuman origins and covert recovery efforts.
Graves and Gallaudet have recently presented to national security officials about the implications of USOs. Graves remarked, “This is an extraordinary moment in our history. Technology now enables us to uncover hidden realities. The momentum is growing.”
Gallaudet offered a final speculative idea about the origin of these underwater entities: “Perhaps they have inhabited these depths long before humanity, seeking refuge beneath the Earth’s crust from catastrophic geological and atmospheric upheavals… This remains one possibility.”
