SpaceX Kicks Off Five Launches in Eight Days from Florida’s Space Hub

SpaceX has initiated a demanding launch sequence from Florida’s Space Coast, beginning a series of five missions over the next eight days. The inaugural Starlink 6-90 flight successfully placed 29 satellites into orbit, fueling the company’s ongoing expansion of its global internet network.

The combined efforts of SpaceX and United Launch Alliance (ULA) have turned the region into a hive of activity, with multiple launches occurring in rapid succession, some only hours apart.

Unprecedented Launch Cadence

This week marks a record-setting pace for SpaceX, with five launches lined up within an eight-day span. The Starlink 6-90 mission launched on Thursday, deploying 29 satellites and breaking the fastest turnaround record at Space Launch Complex 40—achieving liftoff just 2 days, 2 hours, and 44 minutes after the previous NROL-77 mission on December 9.

Following this mission, SpaceX plans another Starlink launch for December 15, while United Launch Alliance aims to boost the schedule with an early Monday Atlas V launch, deploying 27 satellites for Amazon’s Project Kuiper. The report indicates these launches will continue through Friday, December 19, setting a new tempo for space activity in the area.

Growing the Starlink Network

SpaceX’s Starlink program remains central to its space ambitions. The Starlink 6-90 mission is one among numerous planned launches. Another, Starlink 6-82, is scheduled for December 15, with a launch window spanning 9:43 p.m. to 1:43 a.m. This flight will feature the booster’s ninth launch, which will attempt to return to the drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas.

By mid-2025, SpaceX has deployed more than 3,000 Starlink satellites, boosting their active constellation to over 9,000 satellites. With additional launches planned, the company is steadily moving toward its goal of having over 3,200 Starlink satellites operational by 2029, a major step toward providing worldwide internet access.

Florida’s Space Coast Breaks New Launch Records

SpaceX’s busy roster of launches is part of a broader upswing in activity along the Space Coast. This year, SpaceX, ULA, and Blue Origin combined for a record 106 launches from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center, eclipsing last year’s record of 93 missions. SpaceX contributed the majority of these flights.

In November, the region set another milestone by launching four missions within just 34 hours, including two SpaceX Starlink launches, ULA’s ViaSat-3 F2 mission, and Blue Origin’s New Glenn NG-2 flight. This surge, largely propelled by SpaceX, establishes Florida’s Space Coast as a premier center for commercial space exploration, with no signs of slowing as the company prepares further Starlink and related launches.
