China Prepares Shenzhou-23 Crew Mission for Tiangong Space Station Launch Soon

China is gearing up to send the Shenzhou-23 crewed spacecraft to the Tiangong space station within the next few days, marking a major advancement in the country’s human spaceflight endeavors, reports CGTN. The Shenzhou-23 vehicle, paired with the Long March-2F Y23 rocket, has been transported to the launch platform located at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. As noted by CGTN, all launch systems and equipment are reported to be in excellent working condition, with coordinated system checks and pre-launch evaluations planned to verify flawless readiness. The launch window is expected within a few days, reflecting the smooth progression of China’s space mission preparations.

According to Xu Zheyao, a rocket engineer at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, “Since our arrival at the site on April 19, each system has undergone detailed performance testing. This includes simultaneous operations across various subsystems: the propulsion segment completed gas testing of the fuel cells and pyrotechnic component checks; the structural team secured the spacecraft’s payload fixtures, sealed the fairing, and finalized connections between the spacecraft-carrier assembly and the escape tower; and comprehensive subsystem tests were conducted, including both small and full-scale integration checks. All monitored parameters are well within expected ranges, confirming the rocket’s normal operation.”

“Next, we will conduct three rounds of electrical testing, primarily involving functional checks of the launch area, circuit inspections for ignition and emergency shutdown, and a full-scale launch rehearsal. Following that, we will perform a full-system gas leak test and fueling.”
